See the Stunning Portraits of the Greatest Writers at this Special Exhibit
Get an in-depth look at your favorite literary figures at Capturing Stories: Photographs of Writers, a breathtaking exhibit now on display at the American Writers Museum. This unique collection of American writer portraits features the work of award-winning photojournalist Art Shay.
For more than 50 years, Shay’s photographs recorded the bombast and energy of postwar America, finding unique angles on the moments and personalities for magazines such as Life, Time, Ebony, and Sports Illustrated. Shay captured the literary world with a sensitivity and insight that became his individual trademark, with photographs that depict the stunning clarity in the eyes of Gwendolyn Brooks and the weary look of an aging Ernest Hemingway, to Allen Ginsberg teaching a rapt crowd in Grant Park during the 1968 Democratic Convention. A world-class street photographer, Shay travelled extensively throughout the 1950s to build an impressive body of work, and you can now see it showcased at this wonderful exhibit. Don’t miss out on this exhibition at the American Writers Museum!
